Girl Scout Way, The Promise Center and Three Cheers

Our first October meeting was kind of disjointed.  We started with the Daisies doing a coloring sheet and the Brownies working on a badge selection sheet.  Unfortunately, the Brownies didn't get far before our opening circle, during which we talked about the Girl Scout Promise.  I explained that the number one most important thing is serving God and that's what we remember when we hold up our number 1 finger.  Next is serving our country (two fingers) and other people (three fingers) and what ties it all together is the Girl Scout Law (thumb and pinkie).

We learned to sing the Girl Scout Law with hand motions.
Then we learned "I'm a Girl Scout Daisy" and "Brownie Smile" and finally, a fun song, "Bazooka zooka Bubble Gum"  For Brownie Girl Scout Ways we are supposed to learn three new songs.  Since the girls I had last year already knew the GS Law Song and I'm a Girl Scout Daisy, we still need one more song.

Next, we talked about caring for ourselves, as part of the Daisy Birdbath award.  We covered things like eating right, exercising, brushing teeth etc.  Also, since we meet at a Catholic church we are asked to cover Safe Environment yearly.  Themes for girls this age are that we tell a trusted adult if someone hurts us, and keep telling until someone listens.  We don't bully and report bullies to adults.  Also, we don't keep secrets from our parents unless they are fun secrets, like surprise parties.

We finished up with a discussion of how animals do with their bodies what we do with tools.  Then the girls made an animal body parts cootie catcher I bought at Teachers Pay Teachers.  At that point I sent those who were not camping with us the next weekend home, and held a short pre-camping meeting where the girls voted on a menu almost identical to what I had planned.  Amazing how that works.
